JOTA 2010

On 16-17th October 2010, over half a million Girl Guides and Scouts around the world talked to and learnt about each other at JOTA (Jamboree On The Air).

Winston Hills Girl Guides hosted a JOTA station for 181 participants from across the Hills area and Western Sydney.  Activities varied from decoding Morse Code to making Braille nametags to writing with quills to completing a giant Guiding crossword to finding the key to unlock the mystery box.  This year 3 radios were operated simultaneously for the Girl Guides (and visiting Scouts) to talk to other Guides and Scouts over the airwaves.  Contacts were made all around Australia and various overseas countries including England, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada and more.  Visits to the JOTI (Jamboree On The Internet) base run by the Winston Hills Scouts were also well enjoyed.

The activities continued late into the evening for the Winston Hills and Kellyville Guides who slept over at the hall.  Some stayed up late to make contacts with JOTA stations in different time-zones while others enjoyed talking the next morning to overseas groups who were staying up late.
